The New iPad loses 4G Branding

Posted 13 May 2012 - By Mike Green

Cellular new branding

Apple has changed it's marketing of the mobile data network devices by dropping the "4G" title and replacing it with the word "Cellular".

The moves follows the UK's Advertising Standards Authority's (ASA) inquiry into Apple's marketing from which they are not satisfied about claims of the latest iPad's 4G capabilities. The UK currently does not have widespread 4G coverage and even when it does it will not be compatible with the new iPad. Some networks had previously decided to add stickers to iPad boxes informing buyers that the new iPad will not work on 4G networks in the UK to avoid potentially being sued in court themselves.

Also the Australian competition regulator complained as they felt their consumers were being misled over the possible data speeds. Other countries which have had their branding changed on the Apple website are Ireland, USA, Canada, New Zealand, UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

As per usual, Apple have not commented on the matter.
